EU governments are struggling to agree on how far to open the bloc’s fund depositary market to cross-border competition, in an early test of Brussels’ efforts to turn the Savings and Investments Union into a more integrated capital market.
Member states made progress this week on the basis of a possible compromise drafted by the Irish presidency, according to an EU source, but key elements of any agreement remain unresolved.
