Upton man jailed after admitting causing death of teenager by dangerous driving
A man has been jailed after admitting causing the death of a teenager by dangerous driving following a collision involving illegal electric motorbikes in Wirral.
Leon Jones, 20, of Ford Way in Upton, appeared before the court for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. He was also sentenced for a separate and unconnected offence of arson.
Wirral councillor slams ‘scumbag’ flytippers
A councillor has slammed the “arrogant, selfish scumbags” who fly-tipped a pile of waste at a Wirral beauty spot. A mound of waste wood with protruding nails was dumped on the Wallasey Embankment over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The area, which is popular with dog walkers and runners, saw a van load of waste dumped. Following texts from residents to report the crime, Cllr Ian Lewis attended and met with a member of staff from the Council’s CCTV Team.

A registered mental health nurse has been jailed for four years after she was found guilty of the wilful neglect of a vulnerable inpatient who later died.
Laurence Tchapong, 53, of Penroyson Close in Manchester, was responsible for carrying out checks every five minutes on a young woman receiving treatment at Brooklands Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit, in Clatterbridge.
Driver arrested after cannabis and cash seized
A vehicle was stopped in Birkenhead for a routine document check. Officers detected the smell of cannabis and carried out a search of the driver and vehicle, uncovering a quantity of cannabis and cash. The items were seized and the driver was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.
Man charged after boy’s bicycle stolen in Irby
A man has been charged following a report that a teenage boy’s bike was stolen in Irby.
At around 4.50pm on Saturday, 8 August, Merseyside Police received a report that a pedal bike had been stolen outside a shop on Thingwall Road.
Three shops closed following operation in Ellesmere Port
Three shops are set to be shut down and thousands of pounds worth of counterfeit cigarettes and vapes have been seized, following a partnership operation in Ellesmere Port.
On Thursday, 3 September, officers from the Cheshire Police Western Exploitation Team were joined by colleagues from Trading Standards when they visited businesses in Ellesmere Port, supported by a specialist tobacco detection dog.
