Killing Eve star Jodie Comer has paid tribute to the show that gave her her big break 14 years ago — Casualty. The BBC soap is about to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a special double bill airing tonight (September 5).
Appearing on The One Show earlier this week, Comer was asked about her role in the soap, in honour of its four decades on television.

“It was one of my early jobs,” Comer said. “Those roles are so kind of fundamental to you starting out and learning everything about being on a set and obviously now the more work that you do it’s those kind of roles you look back on with a kind of awe.
“They’re the kind of roles that your family probably celebrated more than what you do now because they felt so major.”
A 19-year-old Comer appeared in a 2012 episode titled ‘I’ll See You in My Dreams,’ as Maddy Eldon, the teenage daughter of family who is brought in after the father suffers a fractured skull.
Comer has come a long way since her Casualty appearance and is currently starring alongside Hugh Jackman in The Death of Robin Hood.
The film follows an aged Robin Hood (Jackman) who is tormented by his life of crime and murder. After being gravely injured in a battle, he finds refuge in a Priory on a remote island where he bonds with healer Sister Brigid (Comer).

Meanwhile, Casualty bossed have promised that tonight’s anniversary episodes will be a treat for both old and new fans.
Melanie Hill, who plays Siobhan McKenzie, previously told Digital Spy of the episodes: “I would like the viewers who maybe haven’t seen Casualty before to keep watching, because we keep raising the bar.
“These are very different episodes, obviously there is much bigger CGI involved. But as well as that, we continue to tell really human stories that everyone can identify with – and the scripts that we’re working on now just get better and better.”
The Death of Robin Hood is out now in UK cinemas.
Casualty airs on Saturday nights on BBC One and now streams first on BBC iPlayer, where episodes are released at 6am on the day of transmission. The show’s 40th anniversary double bill airs on Saturday 5 September on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
