‘A McDonald’s and a few Budweiser bottles and something else – that’s been sat in that same position for over two weeks’

A Media City resident has slammed the car park he uses at Salford Quays for its ‘disgraceful’ condition – claiming it is constantly covered in dirt and rubbish.

Images shared with the Manchester Evening News appear to show litter strewn across sections of the building – including beer bottles and takeaway containers. Another picture shows a bin overflowing with refuse.

The inhabitant, who did not wish to be named, says he pays £171.60 a month to park at the Garage car park, in Salford. But now he said no longer feels safe keeping his car there, and wishes his money was used to keep the space clean and tidy.

Having lived in his apartment and used the car park since May, he added that he doesn’t think he’s ever seen such an appalling car park in his life. He told the MEN: “They’ve got the cheek to charge for using a space there when you live at Media City.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an appalling car park in my life.

“It’s always been really dirty, it’s always grubby. It’s thick, it’s inches thick in dirt and grease. And it’s just not well attended to.

“The picture that you can see there that looks like a McDonald’s and a few Budweiser bottles and something else – that’s been sat in that same position for over two weeks.

“And then, of course, you go ‘that’s been there a while,’ and then you drive past and think, and that has too, and that has. The more I drive, I think ‘what are you doing?’ How are they not seeing this?’

“This is Media City that we pride ourselves on. There’s great gardens and a great community, it’s a fairly expensive place to live respectfully, but it’s all lovely. And then you’ve got that.

“It’s just not good enough. If it was £50 a month, I’d say nothing – but £171? And that’s what I get to look at every day?”

The resident said that he had raised the issue with the car park previously and it had been cleaned up, but added that after a couple of weeks it just returned to its unkempt state, with rubbish left there for weeks at a time.

He said: “All I want is to live in a lovely place and feel that my £171 a month is being used properly. For them to keep it nice, keep it safe, keep it lit.

“It’s just utterly disgusting because how can you be a manager or a senior team member there and not spot that? You’d have to have your bloody eyes closed, wouldn’t you?

“My understanding is, the BBC have, like, 100 spaces on floor four and five and the first couple of levels always seem to be people from sort of Media City, because I see the same cars there over and over again.

“But it’s a healthy whack, isn’t it? £171 a month. I know it’s only £5 or £6 a day, but I do gulp every time I send it across to them and think that’s another month.

“I want to feel like my money’s being used. That it’s being kept clean and safe and it’s the right environment for a very nice car, you know?

“The rest of Media City, they keep it well because I think the landlords pay a lot of charges and things, so it’s always kept nice. But that’s what I call disgusting.”

A spokesperson for YourParkingSpace said: “We’re sorry to hear about the concerns raised by the resident and take them seriously. We have reviewed the issues that have been brought to our attention and, working with MediaCity, are making operational improvements to help improve the cleanliness of the site.”
