Scott Silkstone, 51, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court, after being convicted of killing Dwayne Tuohey in Burmantofts, Leeds.
The court heard that Silkstone attacked Mr Tuohey, 55, inside his flat at Gargrave Court before dragging him outside and repeatedly stamping on him.
Mr Tuohey was found unconscious near bins outside the flats by paramedics on January 1.
He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
Violent assault
Forensic investigators found blood throughout the living room and on a number of objects, including a prosthetic leg, a crutch, a heater, a shower seat and a metal box.
Experts concluded several of the items had been used as weapons during the attack.
Silkstone was sentenced to life imprisonment and must serve a minimum of 22 years before being considered for parole.
Family’s heartbreak
In a statement, Mr Tuohey’s family said his murder had changed the way they see the world and highlighted the devastating impact violent crime has on loved ones left behind.
Detective Inspector Jodie Hayes, of West Yorkshire Police, described the attack as “horrific and vicious” and said Silkstone had shown no remorse despite overwhelming evidence.
