Three people have been arrested following the fatal crash on the A8 near Edinburgh yesterday.
A major emergency service response was scrambled to Glasgow Road, between Newbridge Roundabout and Gogar, at around 9.25am on September 7. Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene of the incident, which police later described as a “hit-and-run” crash.
Officers first received a report of a crash involving a grey Mercedes A250, a black Renault Captur, a grey Skoda Karoq and a grey Hyundai i30. Ambulance crews attended, however, the 58-year-old female driver of the Hyundai i30 was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives said they were looking for three people who allegedly fled following the crash. Two women, aged 23 and 19, and a 32-year-old man have now been arrested in connection.
Four other people were taken to hospital for treatment and released. Sergeant Mike Thomson said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman who died. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
Extensive enquiries, using specialists resources including air support and the dog unit, were deployed on Monday evening.

Images taken at the scene showed a lorry, which was stopped on a grass verge and a number of cars, some of which appeared to be on their roof. Police with sniffer dogs were also pictured in the area.
The road was closed to allow investigation enquiries to be carried out and re-opened around 7.05pm last night. The vehicles were also recovered.
Speaking last night, Inspector Thomas Mallinson said: “My thoughts are with the family of the person who died at this incredibly difficult time.
“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed it or who has information which could assist our investigation to contact us. I would also ask anyone who was in the area and may have dash-cam footage to please get in touch if it holds anything which could be relevant.”
