Prince Harry has spoken to his father King Charles since he arrived in the UK, T&C understands. The conversation took place the first week the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived to start the next phase of their life on British soil.
The fact they had been in touch came to light after the Daily Mirror published a story last night with the headline that Harry and the King have not spoken. That followed tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family being laid bare after the release of a statement on behalf of the King emphasizing that Harry and Meghan were no longer working royals.
Ahead of the Sussexes’ arrival around two weeks ago it was made clear that the King welcomes the opportunity to see more of them in a private capacity. However, the move has thrust the long-running feud between the Sussexes and the monarchy into the spotlight and highlighted that there is still much to be resolved. William and Harry are still not speaking, and it is clear from the King’s letter that there are concerns over how Harry and Meghan will shape their new public roles and whether that has potential to tread on the working royals’ toes.
It has not been shared publicly where the couple is living with their two children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, due to concerns over privacy and security. Harry currently does not have guaranteed police protection in the UK as this was removed when he was no longer a working royal. A review is thought to be taking place over his security arrangements but until then his security remains determined on a case-by-case basis.
Neither Harry nor Meghan has made any public appearances since arriving in the UK. However, it is understood that Harry in particular intends to have a public role on behalf of charities. Meghan has been in talks for an acting role but nothing has been confirmed.
There remains confusion about the exact reason for their decision to live in the UK after they previously said so many times that the British media landscape and security situation was untenable. They have not issued any official statement or comment about their return. Other than the recent letter sent on behalf of the King, no other member of the royal family has spoken publicly about the Sussexes’ return.
