Professor John Bew, who served as Sunak’s foreign policy adviser, was recognised for his political and public services.
Bew, who is the son of crossbench peer Lord Paul Bew, was appointed by Boris Johnson to the role in 2019.
He continued to serve in the same role for Johnson’s successor Liz Truss and later for Sunak.
In 2013 he became the youngest ever person to hold the ‘Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy’ research post at the US Library of Congress.
When he was in his 30s, Cambridge-educated John Bew was made a professor of war studies at King’s College London.
He has contributed to several political publications and written several books, including a lauded biography of former Labour Prime Minister Clement Attlee.
Bew worked closely with Rishi Sunak on the Windsor Framework.
Former Secretary of State Theresa Villiers was also recognised in Sunak’s resignation honours list.
The Chipping Barnet MP held the position from 2012 to 2016.
Mrs Villiers’ tenure as Secretary of State included the successful G8 summit in Co Fermanagh in June 2013.
She also chaired 11 weeks of inter-party talks in Belfast in 2013, resulting in the Stormont House Agreement.
After “problems with implementation” she chaired a further 10 weeks of talks in 2015, which delivered the Fresh Start agreement.
Former England cricketer James Anderson was also knighted in Sunak’s list.
Sir James, who retired from Test cricket in July having taken more wickets than any fast bowler in Test history, is joined on the list by a number of Tory politicians who received peerages and knighthoods.
Former education and housing secretary Michael Gove was confirmed to have been given a seat in the House of Lords after being heavily tipped for a peerage.
Mr Gove, who is now the editor of the Spectator magazine, has served in the cabinet of four Prime Ministers.
Jeremy Hunt, the chancellor in Sunak’s cabinet, and former Foreign Secretary James Cleverly were awarded knighthoods.
There were also knighthoods for former Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and ex-Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride.

Elsewhere, Matthew Vaughn, the filmmaker behind Layer Cake, Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class and the Kingsman franchise, was also awarded a knighthood for his services to the creative industries.
Alongside Gove, Sunak made four other former Tory MPs peers, including former Transport Secretary Mark Harper, former chief whip Simon Hart, ex-Scotland Secretary Sir Alister Jack and former Attorney General Victoria Prentis KC.
Two other senior Tories — Eleanor Shawcross, who previously served as the director of the Number 10 Policy Unit, and Stephen Massey, former Conservative Party chief executive — were also given peerages.
