An EasyJet flight from Manchester heading to Germany had to make a sharp U-turn after declaring a mid-air emergency. Flight EZY32GY to Hamburg declared a mid-air emergency on Wednesday evening (September 23) before turning back near Amsterdam.
Information from Flight Radar shows the aircraft took off at 7.15pm, one hour and 15 minutes after its scheduled departure time. The flight then squawked 7700 and turned around approximately 30 minutes after takeoff. As reported by the Manchester Evening News (MEN), EasyJet said the flight returned to Manchester Airport due to “a technical issue with the aircraft”. The airline also added that “as a precaution,” the plane was met by emergency services upon landing.

An EasyJet spokesperson said: “Flight EZY2195 from Manchester to Hamburg this evening returned to Manchester due to a technical issue with the aircraft.
“The aircraft was met by emergency services only as a precaution, and customers disembarked normally.
“Due to Hamburg Airport’s curfew restriction, the flight was delayed overnight and will continue the journey on 24 September.
“We did everything possible to minimise the impact of the delay, providing hotel accommodation and meals for those who required them, and we are very sorry to customers for the inconvenience caused.”
Squawk 7700 is the universal aviation transponder code used by pilots to signal a general in-flight emergency.
