• Plan will make Square Mile even safer, support economic growth, and strengthen public trust in policing
  • City Corporation aims to boost Square Mile as destination for workers, visitors, and businesses as engine of UK economy
  • Combat the threat of fraud, economic and cybercrime – meeting them head on

The City of London Corporation has today launched a bold new Policing Plan for 2025-2028, setting out a clear strategy for the City of London Police to make the Square Mile even safer, support economic growth, and strengthen public trust in policing.

Presenting the plan to the City Corporation’s Court of Common Council, its top decision-making body, Tijs Broeke, Chair of the City of London Police Authority Board, described it as “central to the City’s future success.”

The plan will support Destination City, the City Corporation’s growth strategy for the Square Mile. He said: “We want the City to be a vibrant, thriving destination and to bring more workers, visitors, and businesses here. As the engine of the nation’s economy, we want to drive growth in financial and professional services at the local, national, and international levels. That is our contribution to this government’s number one mission – economic growth.”

“The Policing Plan sets out how the City Police will support this mission by protecting people and businesses from fraud, economic and cyber-crime, and by transforming the national response to these offences. In doing so it will combat crimes that have millions of victims a year, cause billions in financial losses, and which pose a real threat to our economic security”, he said.

He told elected Members that “this plan is about reducing crime, protecting people and firms, and building trust with the communities we serve”.

The three-year plan prioritises making the City of London Police one of the most inclusive and trusted police services in the country, cutting theft and violence, enhancing counter-terrorism measures, and making the City – already one of the world’s safest business districts – even more secure. It also aims to boost community engagement and put victims at the heart of policing.

Outlining the City of London Police’s role as the UK’s lead force for fraud, he said: “Fighting economic crime is not just about protecting individuals – it’s about safeguarding the engine of the UK economy.”

“Fraud and cybercrime are real threats to our economic security. This plan shows how we will meet them head-on.”

Mr Broeke vowed that the City of London Police Authority Board will hold the City of London Police Commissioner and the police service’s leadership to account for delivering the plan’s outcomes over the next three years.
