LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) – Not long after a deadly tornado hit Kentucky, looters moved in.
One trailer park was hit, but the owners hope their supplies were taken by people who need them.
Debbie Jansen and Karenda Vaughn are partial owners of Bill Vaughn Memorial Trailer Park.
Jansen says, “Two families lost everything. They were found in the debris. They’re both, they’re all alive. Thank the Lord.”
They were hit with a different type of devastation when they got on site Wednesday morning. Vaughn says they realized some of their things were gone.
Thieves took advantage of the mandatory evacuations and stole the donations they’ve been collecting to help their community rebuild their lives.
However, Vaughn says things took a positive turn.
She says donations began “showing up like crazy.”
Strangers, many of them from other states, are coming by to do what they can. Jansen says they’ve had up to 100 people helping out every day.
To the person or people who stole their donations, Vaughn has a message:
“If they need it, we’re here. That’s why we have them. So there’s no reason to take it because we’re here and we will more than gladly give it to you and probably more.”
