A top activewear brand which is loved by celebrities has announced it will be opening a new store in Manchester city centre, which will also mark its first in the UK outside of London.

Alo Yoga, which has been worn by the likes of Taylor Swift, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner, has become known for its luxury gymwear amongst wellness enthusiasts and fitness fanatics.

The brand, also known as Alo, started life in Los Angeles in 2007 and now has stores across the world. It now has four stores – referred to as sanctuaries – in London, with the new Manchester sanctuary set to mark its fifth location in the UK.

Opening on New Cathedral Street in the autumn, the new 7,018 sq ft unit will feature its range of elevated performance and lifestyle apparel that is designed for both women and men.

Its products, which are designed to ‘inspire mindful movement and modern living’, include leggings, sports bras, sweatpants, shirts and boxers, as well as sneakers, yoga mats, socks, and hats.

Alo was also recently described by Grazia as the brand that is ‘replacing jeans and a nice top’ with its range of leggings and bralets. Other famous faces to sport Alo have included Hailey Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Cynthia Erivo, and Jisoo.

Taking a ten-year lease on the Manchester site, Alo will join the likes of Harvey Nichols, Zara, Paul Smith, Hugo Boss, and Ralph Lauren as neighbours. They will also join Manchester-originated brand Represent, who opened their huge store on New Cathedral Street at the end of last year.

Steve Gray, Head of European Retail Asset Management at Global Mutual, which is a joint asset manager for New Cathedral Street, said: “Welcoming Alo Yoga to New Cathedral Street underlines its reputation as one of the UK’s premium retail destinations.

“As demand continues to rise for premium lifestyle brands beyond London, Manchester’s strong demographics and cultural energy make it a natural choice for growing brands.”

Scott Linard, Portfolio Director for M&G Real Estate, added: “Alo Yoga is a fantastic addition to our retail mix. We’re proud to support the growth of innovative brands like Alo Yoga who are seeking high-quality, well-located space to connect with new audiences. Their arrival highlights the strength and diversity of Manchester’s retail offer.”

Alo Yoga will open in Manchester in the autumn.
