Another Coronation Street star is set to leave Weatherfield behind as actor Daniel Brocklebank confirmed his departure.

The actor joined the ITV soap in 2014 as the reformed vicar Billy Mayhew, and after a recent string of exits happening on Coronation Street this year, viewers will certainly be sad to see another popular face bidding the cobbles farewell.

Speaking to The Mirror, Daniel confirmed that he will be leaving the show next year as a “major new storyline” will take place.

The actor added that it was not his decision, but the “issue led plot” will see him leaving the show for good with soap bosses keeping tight-lipped on the details.

In a statement shared with The Mirror, Dan said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.

“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

The Mirror then reported that an insider said it would be a major storyline airing in 2026 that would lead to the departure.

They shared: “Dan will be involved in a major storyline which will see Billy exit the cobbles in 2026. Details are being kept under wraps at this stage.”

Viewers haven’t seen Billy on their screens much lately, but he will be appearing in upcoming scenes with newcomer Theo Silverton who had an affair with Todd Grimshaw.

Last year was difficult for Billy, as his husband Paul Foreman passed away after suffering from motor neurone disease.

While viewers saw him spiral with grief, he appears to have been getting his life back on track. Unfortunately, it appears that this will all change upon his departure.

There’s no confirmation as to how he will leave or whether he’ll be killed off, but fans will feel the shock as Colson Smith recently departed the show as his character Craig Tinker was brutally murdered.

In heart-wrenching scenes, Julie Carp also had her final moments on-screen after telling Eileen Grimshaw her cancer diagnosis.

According to The Sun, the actor was told by Coronation Street bosses that it was time for Billy to say goodbye to Weatherfield, and thought to be a “story-based” decision.

In a less heartbreaking exit, Charlotte Jordan also bowed out as she left in an iconic way that only Daisy Midgely could manage.

Viewers should also prepare for the exit of Debbie Webster later this year as she will be leaving after her dementia diagnosis.
