A small town isolated has been devastated by genetic disorders due to the massive prevalence of incest amongst the population. A fearful resident has revealed the shocking nature of the town and have admitted: “deep down, we are all cousins”.

Spoan syndrome is a rare neuro-degenerative disorder caused by a genetic mutation. The disorder attacks the nervous system and chronically weakens the body.

Those affected by the disorder can be have serious issues preventing them walking or speaking normally. Serrinha dos Pintos, municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, has been rattled by the Spoan syndrome after a significant percentage of the population is battles against the consequences of incest.

A high percentage of the town of 5,000 inhabitants is linked to second-degree relatives, especially their cousins. The massive amount of incestual relationships in the town are due to the rate of external demographic change in the the area being almost zero.

As a result, the risk of transmission of the genetic mutations across generations has skyrocketed “In Serrinha dos Pintos, deep down, we are all cousins. We are relatives of everyone,” a resident of town revealed, pulling the curtain back on the shocking nature of the town.

Scientist Silvina Santos has revealed the cause for the population’s serious crisis in the town due to many of her patients being children and grandchildren of couples who were related.

Santos said the mutation came more than 500 years ago from the hands of the first European settlers who arrived in Brazil – she speculated these people were probably Sephardic Jews or inhabitants of North Africa fleeing the Spanish Inquisition.

A lack of genetic diversity and an abundance of inbreeding led to the emergence of the genetic disorder amongst the town as a significant percentage of the population battles with the genetic condition. Inés, a woman from Serrinha dos Pintos who’s partnered with her second cousin, has two children and has revealed the struggles her children have due to them being a product of incest.

Criquinho, 59, her eldest son suffers from serious problems expressing himself with Marquinhos, 46, her youngest son also has very limited communication skills due to his condition.

“It’s hard to have a special child. We love them just the same, but we suffer for them,” she revealed opening up on the struggles of raising disabled children.

The Daily Star previously reported on a family dubbed “America’s most inbred” after they returned on camera despite filmmaker and photographer Mark Laita, announcing he had pulled the plug on documenting their lives.

Mark provided fans with updates on the clan from Odd, West Virginia since 2020 for his Soft White Underbelly channel. The parties fell out earlier this year, however, over lies, money and a lack of gratitude expressed when visited by a different YouTuber.
