As we head into a bank holiday weekend which is immediately followed by half term, lots of motorists up and down the country will be getting into their cars and hitting the road for a short summer getaway.

With around 20 million journeys expected to be made during each day of the late May Bank Holiday, the AA has issued an amber traffic warning to alert drivers to expect extra congestion.

A new survey carried out by the breakdown service provider estimates that more than 20 million journeys will be made on Friday 23 May, over 19.5 million on Saturday 24 May and just shy of that figure on Sunday 25 May and Monday 26 May.

Some 3.5 million have indicated to the AA that they are planning to take a long weekend break away from home, either with family or friends.

Before you set off for the motorway, it’s important to make sure you’ve got plenty of fuel in the tank so that you’re not stranded on a hard shoulder somewhere along the M6.

Considering we’re still in the midst of a cost of living crisis and everyone is looking to save money where they can, we’ve created a handy little feature that can help you find the best deal on petrol near you.
