Colson Smith has revealed his new job following his Coronation Street exit.

The Craig Tinker actor’s departure was confirmed earlier this year, and his brutal death scenes aired over the last week.

On his Instagram, Smith expressed his gratitude to fans for all their support and revealed that he’s already landed himself a new role.

Sharing a photo of himself standing next to a giant BBC logo, Smith wrote: “Thank you so much for all the love this week! I really appreciate it!

“Some of you have been asking, what next for me? There’s a few exciting things going off!!

“BUT one thing I can tell you for now, is that I’m joining the team at BBC Radio Leeds this summer!!! Catch ya on the wireless in Yorkshire!!”

Smith’s former co-stars responded to the news, with Lucy Fallon (who plays Bethany Platt) writing: “big bad colson (bbc) x.” Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) added: “Love it mate.”

Smith found out he was being written out of the soap last year, and wasn’t surprised as other characters connected to him had departed.

In an interview this week, he said that he was very happy to be killed off and has made it clear that he won’t be returning for any flashback scenes or as a vision/ghost.

‘The day I leave will be the day that I leave,” he said.

Joe Layton – who plays Craig’s killer Mick Michaelis – told us an amusing anecdote about his co-star.

“On my first day, I arrived in the green room and met Colson Smith,” Layton recalled. “He said: ‘I think you’re gonna kill me!’ I said: ‘I think I might’.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Brocklebank announced this week that his character Billy Mayhew will also be departing next year as part of a major storyline.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
