Vitor Pereira has emphasised his appetite for players with genuine enthusiasm and a burning desire to don the Wolves jersey this summer.
Wolves are poised to wrap up their Premier League season this Sunday, entertaining Brentford at their own stomping ground, Molineux.
Since Pereira’s arrival in December, he has been pivotal in turning the club’s fortunes around, steering them well away from the drop zone and towards another campaign in the Premier League’s competitive environment.
During a discussion on wolves.co.uk, Pereira disclosed the hefty interest in joining Wolves, stating: “It’s important to bring players that want to come, that want to live in Wolverhampton, that want to play in the best league of the world and that are family players, with the character and with the personality to work in a simple, but beautiful city.”
He also mentioned the charming local surroundings and the allure of the Premier League: “The nature is beautiful and the competition, in my opinion, is the best in the world. It means that we must go for players that really want to come as much as me.”
With his past professional ties playing a role, he added: “A lot of players are trying to come because they want to play in the Premier League and players that have worked with me.”
Highlighting the influx of potential signings, he remarked: “In this moment, agents start to send players, a lot of players and it means that they want to come. But we need (players) with hunger, with a hunger to play here and to achieve something special.”
Pereira pointed out the vast influence the league has: “Everything you do in this league, the impact is huge. It is a world impact and this is what we can attract them with – with the league and with the people, because I like the people.
“I like the people here because they are a bit like me, simple – and I like simple people.”
Toti Gomes marked his 100th appearance for Wolves in Tuesday’s 4-2 defeat to Crystal Palace, and he’s well aware of the high standards expected by Pereira.
“He’s said that since the first game, even since the first training, he made it very clear,” the defender commented.
“And, of course, during the summer players are going to come, others are going to leave and it’s going to be important to the ones that are here (to improve).”
