One of London’s most charming festive traditions is back, and this year it’s a big one: the Museum of Architecture’s The Gingerbread City returns for its tenth anniversary, opening on Saturday 28th November at a brand-new home in Space House, central London. If you’ve not been, the concept is irresistible – leading architects, engineers and designers build an entire miniature city out of gingerbread, icing and a lot of sweets, with details so intricate they’re genuinely mesmerising.
This year’s theme is Future Forward, asking how our buildings and cities can tackle climate change, sustainability and innovation over the next decade – with practices including Foster + Partners, Hopkins Architects, BDP and Buro Happold bringing ideas to life in sweet-smelling gingerbread, from tech-driven cities to building on Mars. There’s a workshop space too, where you can build your own gingerbread cityscape to take home, plus bookable and drop-in cookie decorating on weekdays. A lovely one for all ages in the run-up to Christmas.
