A teenage shooter who fled abroad after blasting someone in the face at a Midlands park has been put behind bars for over three decades.

Raydell Lennox, 19, opened fire at Caludon Castle Park, Coventry, having rolled up in a car just past 10.15pm on October 21 last year.

The casualty, in his 20s, was left with life-altering facial wounds.

The drive-by shooting is suspected to be a case of mistaken identity.

Lennox then fled from the country but police had already pegged him as the main suspect.

The vehicle believed to have been used on the night of the offence was discovered torched a little over a week on.

Following his return to the UK, Lennox was arrested charged reports Coventry Live.

He was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life after a two week trial.

He received a 32-year stretch inside at Coventry Crown Court on Monday (19 May).

Detective Constable Rob Tilley, part of the Major Crime Team at West Midlands Police, said: “This was a shooting at close range which has left a young man with significant injuries.

“We carried out extensive enquiries and we were able to link Lennox as being involved.

“It’s unclear why Lennox fired the gun towards the victim, a strong line of enquiry has been it was mistaken identity.

“Guns can destroy lives. Lennox will now spend many of his young days in custody.

“We’re committed to tackling gun crime as part of our ongoing Op Target: Operation Target | West Midlands Police.”
