BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend headliner Sam Fender issued an apology to fans during his set. The singer appeared flustered as he toyed with his guitar while dealing with what he described as “technical difficulties”.
Big Weekend takes places each year in a different location across the UK, with a superstar line-up curated by the radio station. Some of tonight’s musical heavyweights include Sam Fender, Wolf Alice, Blossoms and Aitch B2B AJ Tracey.
Around 100,000 fans are expected to visit the festival during the weekend – and this afternoon there were plenty of stylish arrivals heading through the gates ready to enjoy a day of incredible live performances.
Sam opened his set with charting topping hit ‘Getting Started’ which was followed by ‘The Boarders’. During his performance, the North Shields singer could be seen toying with his ear piece and guitar wires.

Early into the gig, Sam said: “I’m absolutely s****** it. Sorry for the vast amount of technical difficulties.” It is unclear what “technical difficulties” Sam was dealing with at the time.
After a few more songs, Sam said: “I’m spinning out. This is the most nervous I think I’ve ever been and I don’t know why.”
Despite his frustrations, the performance appeared to run smoothly from the crowd and for viewers watching at home. Fans could be seen on each other’s shoulders, singing and dancing along to the music.
