The PSNI has confirmed a body found on a beach in Co Down has been identified and said the death is “not being treated as suspicious”.
On Wednesday police forensics officers were pictured at the beach and the surrounding area on the Donaghadee Road area of Millisle village.
It was later confirmed the body of a man had been found by a dog walker earlier that day and was significantly decomposed when it was located.
In a statement to the Belfast Telegraph, police confirmed the body was a male and said they were liaising with the family of the man.
A police spokesperson said: “The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that the body found in the Donaghadee Road area of Millisle on Wednesday 21st May, has been identified.
“The remains were determined to be male and police are engaging with the family of the deceased.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
Last week, DUP MLA Stephen Dunne said his thoughts were with the person’s loved ones.
“I was shocked by the news that a body had been discovered on a quiet beach in Millisle,” he said.
“My thoughts and prayers are with this individual’s family and friends at this most difficult time.
“Millisle is a tight-knit community, and there is understandably a great deal of concern locally after what has been a distressing week for the village.”
