Charlton Athletic’s victory over Leyton Orient in the League One play-off final on Saturday has confirmed next season’s Championship line-up.

Birmingham City cruised to the League One title with a record-breaking 111 points to return to the Championship at the first attempt. Wrexham finished runners-up and, as mentioned above, Charlton have been promoted via the play-offs.

Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton, all of whom were promoted from the Championship a year ago, have come straight back down from the Premier League.

Blues and their Championship rivals will receive their fixture lists on Thursday, June 26 – a day after Chris Davies’ squad are due to report to the Elite Performance and Innovation Centre for the start of pre-season testing.

Players usually have two days of testing with Davies expected to take his first sessions week commencing Monday, June 30.

Blues will have six weeks to prepare for the start of the Championship season on the weekend of August 9 and 10.

They will play their first pre-season friendly out in Portugal at the end of their week-long training camp, which begins on July 7, before returning home for domestic friendlies with Solihull Moors, Northampton and Port Vale.

Here is Blues’ schedule as things stand…

  • Pre-season begins – Wednesday 25 June
  • Championship fixtures released – Thursday 26 June (12pm)
  • Pre-season camp in Portugal – Monday 7 July – Sunday 13 July
  • The Arthur Cup: Solihull Moors v Blues – Wednesday 16 July (7pm), Damson Park
  • Northampton Town v Blues, Saturday 26 July (3pm), Sixfields Stadium
  • Port Vale v Blues – Saturday 26 July (1pm), Vale Park
