Council woirking in tandem with voluntary organisationsActivity at the Old Trafford community hub
Thousands of residents are receiving help and support from Trafford’s community hubs as they struggle through the cost-of-living crisis.
New figures this week reveal that nearly 16,000 residents received help and support from the six Trafford hubs – Altrincham, Old Trafford, Partington, Sale, Stretford, and Urmston – in the year 2024 to 2025.
The hubs, which work in partnership with Trafford council, were set up in March 2020 by voluntary organisations working with the authority as part of the response to the Covid Pandemic. They have since grown and developed to meet the needs of their own particular local communities now and in the future.
In the last 12 months, the hubs have provided help for 15,859 residents; distributed 3,257 food bank vouchers, helped provide £120,000 in Household Support Fund money to 1,840 households; made 1,461 financial support referrals, 288 Housing Support referrals and 921 training referrals; helped 35,854 residents participate in support programmes and organised activities for more than 250,000 residents
They offer a safe, warm space as well as social activities and support in a number of areas. The include listening to people to understand their situation; dispensing advice; helping to maximise people’s income by giving information and advice; helping people to gain skills needed to get a job; help to improve physical and mental wellbeing; help to become more socially connected and help to get emergency food, if needed.
Council leader Tom Ross said: “The community hubs around Trafford are an absolute lifeline to all the families and individuals struggling to make ends meet across the borough. They are as invaluable today as they were during Covid and a huge asset to all our communities.
“The hubs provide a safe space for people to gain the help and support they need in a whole variety of areas. I am not surprised that they continue to be such a success. Well done to everyone involved in the six hubs – you are all heroes doing a fantastic job.”
All Trafford residents of all ages are eligible to approach the community support hubs for help and anyone can contact the hubs for support without a referral.
