Edinburgh is in the throes of a wet spell which is impacting regions across the UK.

Now while the rain is welcomed by gardeners and farmers across the Lothians, for your everyday resident, the recent sunny weather has been sorely missed.

The weekend saw a spluttering of showers across the capital, making it difficult to go about your day without a waterproof or umbrella in hand.

Sadly the rain is due to continue for the start of this week with Monday May 26 set for a full day of rain from 9am right through til midnight.

Tuesday 27 will be overcast and will remain mostly dry however BBC forecasters predict there is a chance for on off showers across some parts of the capital.

However Wednesday 28 is about to bring the return of glorious sunshine in the morning before the sky is expected to fill with clouds but remain dry throughout the day.

Temperatures will peak at 16C in the afternoon.

The bad news is the reprieve is short lived as Edinburgh goes back to being battered by wall to wall rain from Thursday 29 through to the afternoon on Friday 30.

Saturday 31 and Sunday June 1 will be much like last weekend with sporadic rain showers coming and going throughout both days.

But temperatures are expected to peak at 19C this coming weekend.
