A Bristol pub has apologised following an incident involving a disabled customer over the weekend.
The owners of the Rising Sun in Ashton Road took to social media to address the incident which involved one of the door staff at the pub.
They were quick to apologise and also outlined the action they have taken against the doorman, who they said was employed through a third-party provider, and has since been removed from the venue.
Posting to Facebook on Saturday (May 24), The Rising Sun wrote: “We’d like to take a moment to address a recent incident that has been shared on social media, and clarify both our policies and the action we’ve taken.
“Our venue operates a Challenge 25 policy on Friday and Saturday evenings.
“This means that anyone who appears or looks to be under the age of 25 is required to show valid ID if they wish to remain in the venue after 7pm.
“This is a licensing requirement, and helps us maintain a safe and responsible environment for all guests.
“However! We are aware of a situation involving one of the door staff and a guest with a disability, and we want to make it absolutely clear that we do not condone any form of disrespect or discrimination.
“The individual involved is employed by a third-party security provider, not directly by us, but we were extremely concerned by what was reported and have acted swiftly.
“That individual has now been removed from our venue, and we are continuing to review the situation to ensure it is handled properly. We are also revisiting staff guidance and expectations to make sure that all members of the team uphold the respectful, inclusive standards we stand for.
“We take the comfort and dignity of all our guests seriously, and are truly sorry for any upset caused. If you would like to speak to us directly, please feel free to message us or contact us direct.
“Once again, our deepest apologies to the young lady involved and family members who were with her, and anyone else who this may have affected. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
