As the saying goes, it never rains, but it pours – and that couldn’t be more true for Greater Manchester this week as we emerge from a very wet Bank Holiday weekend into yet more rain after weeks of sunshine.
At least reservoirs and waterways will be breathing a sigh of some relief as the recent wet weather brings a close to what has been the driest spring for over a century.
While this week will bring more rain, there will be some warmer days as well, with conditions set to brighten up over Friday and Saturday with highs of 22 degrees, according to the Met Office forecast.
Today (May 27) is set to be chilly and overcast, with heavy rain predicted to begin at round midday and continue, on and off, for the rest of the afternoon. Temperatures will peak at just 13 degrees.
Things will improve overnight, though, as cloudy skies and a smattering of rain will give way to patches of sunshine throughout tomorrow morning (May 28), before clearing completely to leave us with a sunny evening and highs of 17 degrees.
The picture is more mixed for Thursday, however. Early risers will start their day under a downpour, with heavy rain predicted between 7am and 10am.
The afternoon is set to bring a balmy 18C and patches of sun to the region – though this will be accompanied by some fairly strong breezes, with gusts of up to 35mph.
Friday 30 May is set to be another fairly balmy day, with sun and cloud intervals throughout the day reaching highs of 19 degrees by the late afternoon.
And the same can be expected on Saturday, with sunny intervals throughout the day and highs of 20 degrees – though the occasional wind gust might be set to make things feel a couple of degrees colder.
Sunday will remain mostly bright, with sun and cloud intervals through the morning, and a moderate chance of light showers at around lunchtime. It will feel noticeably cooler though, with highs of 16 degrees – which the Met Office says will feel more like 13.
