Prince Harry has reportedly made a surprising decision recently – and royal experts say it points to his intention to repair his familial bond and public reputationLONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - APRIL 09: (EMBARGOED FOR PUBLICATION IN UK NEWSPAPERS UNTIL 24 HOURS AFTER CREATE DATE AND TIME) Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex (wearing a Household Division regimental tie) departs after attending day 2 of a Court of Appeal hearing regarding his security at the Royal Courts of Justice on April 9, 2025 in London, England. A surprising decision by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been dubbed an ‘ironic’ yet crucial move on the path to mending fences with the Royal Family.

Just last week, it was reported that Harry and Meghan had assembled a ‘royal’ staff set-up as they flip the script on their life in the US. This shakeup reportedly mirrors the hierarchical setup Harry knew back in his palace days, complete with a retooled squad of 11 at the helm, led by public relations ace Meredith Kendall Maines.

The new entourage will operate distinctly from their philanthropic venture, Archewell. This maneuver is rumored to be Harry’s gesture of extending an olive branch to the Royal Family‘s higher-ups, echoing his yearning for truce aired in a BBC sit-down earlier this year.

Speaking to Nada Tawfik, he disclosed: “There have been so many disagreements, differences, between me and some of my family. This current situation that has been now ongoing for five years with regard to human life and safety is the sticking point.

“It is the only thing that’s left. Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book.

“Of course they will never forgive me for lots of things. But you know, there is… I would love reconciliation with my family. I’ve always, you know, there’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

Royal expert Charlotte Griffiths labelled Harry’s choice to recreate the structure he had when he was a working Royal as ‘ironic’, adding: “the grass isn’t always greener”. She wrote in the Mail: “How ironic that Harry now favours the rigid hierarchical structure of the kind he has consistently railed against since ‘escaping’ Kensington Palace.

“Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener, even if it is a manicured seven-acre lawn in exclusive Montecito. After all, a royal household is all he’s ever known.”

‘Harry must do two things to fix family bond’

Reconciliation speculation between Prince Harry and the British Royal Family has been rife, even making its way into a Channel 5 documentary named ‘Harry: Can He Ever Be Forgiven?’. Royal commentator and the Countess of Sandwich Julie Montagu voiced optimism in the documentary, stating that reconciliation could be on the cards.

However, she stressed it must begin with the Duke of Sussex. Ms Montagu said there are two things he needs to do to repair his image and family ties.

She said: “The public wants to forgive, but it needs to start with Harry. Number one, stop any type of interview where you’re mentioning any member of your family – end of story.

“And then number two, if you really want to make that reconciliation, whether that’s private or public, start that. Once that reconciliation begins, then the public can be made aware of that.”

In addition to expressing a desire for reconciliation in his BBC interview, Harry has also made regular trips to the UK, most notably to visit King Charles shortly after his cancer diagnosis last year, reports Yorkshire Live. Moreover, the next edition of Harry’s Invictus Games will be hosted in the UK in 2027.

Along with the return of the Invictus Games to the UK, Harry is also on the verge of launching his own commercial venture. As such, there is speculation that the groundwork being laid now is part of a strategy to improve the Duke’s image in his home country before the event launches in two years’ time, especially after a YouGov poll found only 27 percent of the British public had a positive opinion of him.

Furthermore, Harry may have been inspired by the redemption Queen Camilla experienced in the early-2000s, which has seen her become one of the most beloved members of the Royal Family. While Prince Harry may be keen to embark on the arduous path of reconciliation, certain Royal pundits suggest this desire might not align with his brother Prince William’s stance.

Speaking to the Mirror, Royal expert Jennie Bond shared her doubts about the potential for the siblings to reconcile. She said: “William may remain estranged from his brother forever, even though this would be a very sad state of affairs.

“But, if he does, I think he will continue to regard Harry simply as irrelevant to his life and to this country. And I don’t think he would trouble himself with taking away either of their titles.”
