A driver is being ‘urged to hand themselves in’ after a teenager was left seriously hurt in a collision.

The 17-year-old was walking along Ladypool Road when he was struck by a vehicle, which failed to stop.

Passers-by ran to help the victim, and he was taken to the hospital.

The incident, which happened just after midday on May 19, was caught on footage which has been circulated on social media.

Despite appeals, the driver has not been traced and West Midlands Police is re-appealing to them to do the right thing and come forward.

Police said: “We’re asking for your help after a teenage boy was hit by a car in Sparkbrook.

“Shortly after midday on Monday, 19 May, the 17-year-old was crossing Ladypool Road when he was hit by a dark coloured car.

“The boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“The driver failed to stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to trace them.

“Our specialist investigators are working to establish the exact circumstances of what happened, and we’re urging the driver to hand themselves in.

“We also need anyone who saw what happened, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact us via 101 quoting Log 2156 of 19 May.

“Likewise, we are keen to hear from you if you have any other information about this incident, which you can give to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and pedestrian on Ladypool Road at 12.08pm, one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Trust’s Critical Care Car attended the scene.

“On arrival, we discovered one patient, a teenage male who was the pedestrian.

“He was treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”
