A British Transport Police investigation continues more than one week after a teenager was stabbed in a mob brawl inside Birmingham New Street Station.

A teen boy was stabbed in violent disorder involving “several teenagers” at Birmingham New Street at around 8pm on Monday May 19.

The male teen was taken to hospital for stab injuries not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening and the main course at New Street was temporarily sealed off.

Providing an update to BirminghamLive more than one week on from the knife incident, British Transport Police confirmed that there had been no arrests, and referred us to their initial witness appeal, which was released on May 20.

Police inquiries are ongoing, and officers have urged members of the public to get in touch if they saw anything inside the station, which was very busy at the time of the stabbing.

Pictures from the scene last Monday showed an area of the New Street concourse cordoned off behind Ozzy the Bull.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said on May 20: “Detectives investigating a stabbing at Birmingham New Street railway station are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

“Officers were called to Birmingham New Street railway station at around 8pm on Monday May 19 following reports of violent disorder in the station involving several teenagers.

“Paramedics also attended and a teenage boy was treated at the scene for an injury consistent with being stabbed. He was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening. No arrests have been made in connection at this time.”

Detective Inspector Connor Towes said: “There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network, and detectives are working at pace to investigate this incident. Passengers will see an increased police presence at the station while officers carry out their enquiries.

“We know the station was busy at the time of the incident and many people may have seen what happened or the events leading up to it, so we are urging anyone with information to get in touch and assist us with our enquiries.”
