Historian Cormac Moore has launched his latest book, a critique of the workings of the Boundary Commission 100 years on, which he concludes was a “momentous failure”.

The launch took place at No Alibis on Botanic Avenue. Its title The Root of All Evil is a quote from the then Ulster Unionist leader James Craig, a reflection of the initial fears within the community he led.

Convened in 1924 after being offered by the British as part of the negotiations leading to the Anglo-Irish Treaty, there was a belief among nationalists tracts of the six counties would become part of the new Free State.

A century on, Mr Moore illuminates the fascinating and infuriating story behind the Boundary Commission’s momentous failure, which would have long-lasting, catastrophic consequences for the entirety of the island of Ireland.
