A road was closed to traffic this evening following a serious crash. Emergency services were called to the junction of Vandries Street and Waterloo Road in Vauxhall shortly after 7pm on Wednesday, May 28.

The crash involved a Volkswagen ID3 and an AJS Highway Star motorbike, police said. The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

A cordon was put in place on a large section of the road and a number of side roads, including Vulcan Street and Porter Street, were closed at the junction of Waterloo Road.

Photos taken from the scene show a significant emergency services response including fire engines, paramedics and police. An air ambulance later landed in nearby Costco car park to provide medical support, however this departed at around 7.50pm.

A witness at the scene told how she was walking to the car when she heard “a bang and then scraping”. She told the ECHO: “It was an awful sound. This is a terrible junction. Cars park all the way to the edge of the road and it’s really difficult to see what’s coming.”

A white screen was put in place inside the cordon, and a silver car with its hazard lights flashing was clearly visible. Both its bonnet and boot were open.
