The vote goes to RUN OF LUCK, who finished nearer last than first on the all-weather last time, but his form figures in turf handicaps read 2131, and he still has low mileage.
He’s also bred to appreciate this longer trip and is expected to prove himself still on a good mark, having been dropped 3lb in the weights. Curtiz is likely to emerge as the main danger, but if the first-time blinkers have a positive effect, Gallant Lion could also be a threat. Marioento completes the shortlist.
POMME POMME has taken sizeable steps forward on each of her two starts since switching to handicaps, cosily seeing off the re-opposing Buck Barrow at Bath prior to an even more decisive display at Wolverhampton last week.
She remains a step ahead of the assessor, turned out under a penalty, and, with no problem returning to turf, she will take plenty of stopping. Electric Bass shades preference ahead of Buck Barrow for forecast purposes.
SEA OF KINGS is bred in the purple – he’s a brother to high-class Sea of Class, and his debut second in a Nottingham maiden was full of promise.
The Sea The Stars colt bumped into another above-average type on that occasion who has won again since, and, open to plenty of improvement now, he’s taken to go one better here before having his sights raised further. Noble Horizon is second choice ahead of Rogue Millions, while Berezka is also shortlisted.
THE COFFEE POD took a step back in the right direction when finishing third at Windsor recently, and he deserves extra credit for finishing as close as he did, given he was hampered and squeezed out leaving the stalls.
He looks well-treated at present, and this looks a good opportunity for him to resume winning ways. If there is one to beat him, it may well be Connie’s Rose, who failed to fire last time but was close up in back-to-back sprint handicaps here prior to that. Secret Handsheikh is also considered.
Last time out winner HAVANA CLUB arrives on an upward trajectory, proving better than ever to open his account in good style at Bath, and he may be able to provide another winner for the in-form Adrian Wintle yard.
Paragon hasn’t looked the most straightforward but could be worth another chance to capitalise on a lowly mark now fitted with headgear, while Dandy Khan bounced back to form when a shade unlucky at Windsor last time and should run well again.
The Ralph Beckett-trained EL MATADOR overcame inexperience to make a winning return at Salisbury last month, doing plenty wrong, so the fact he managed to overhaul a useful sort shows he’s got potential to do even better yet, and he’s expected to defy a 7lb penalty with further improvement forthcoming.
Hugo Palmer’s Reds And Wolves shaped well when fifth at Wolverhampton last time and heads the list of dangers with Lord Montague, Sea Poetry, and Magnetite all in the picture, too.
This looks wide open, so it could be worth siding with TWITCH to capitalise on a reduced mark having not enjoyed the rub of the green when down the field at Chelmsford last time out.
Ravenglass is next on the list on the back of a recent course and distance success from Too Much Trevor, with Ashford Hill, Roach Power, and Clipsham La Habana all considered, also.
