The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 78 individuals suspected of involvement in internet-related fraud across Nasarawa, Abia, and Kano states.
The commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued Friday in Abuja.
According to him, 43 of the suspects were apprehended in Toto, Nasarawa State on Friday following intelligence that linked them to online fraudulent activities. “Items recovered from them include five motorcycles, 64 mobile phones, four laptop computers, and an iPad,” he said.
In a related operation on Thursday, EFCC operatives arrested 30 suspects in Ariam and Ubakala areas of Abia State. Oyewale said items seized during the raid included four vehicles, one iPad, three laptops, a sound system, 42 mobile phones, and one external hard drive.
Also during the week, five individuals were arrested in Kano State. The arrests were made on Tuesday at Farm Centre, Kano, by operatives of the EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate.
“The suspects were apprehended during a sting operation following actionable intelligence on their alleged involvement in internet fraud and related financial crimes,” Oyewale stated. “They were arrested alongside their mobile phones.”
He added that all the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
