A two-hour drive from Bristol is the UK’s most expensive seaside town – which tourists flock to.

Sandbanks in Dorset was found to top the list, according to new research by Lloyds Bank, with an average property price of £965,708 in 2024.

Lloyds said while the average house price in Sandbanks has fallen by 3%, or £33,595, compared with 2023, it still sits at the top of its coastal property league, which is dominated by locations in the South West of England.

‌With its golden beaches and associations with luxury lifestyles, Sandbanks is known as a popular location for celebrities, with its array of upscale restaurants and glitzy nightlife.

The Poole Tourism website describes Sandbanks as “one of the most exclusive areas anywhere in the world”. It says: “The iconic Sandbanks and its gorgeous beach are the ideal location for a seaside break at any time of the year.

“Sandbanks Beach is recognised as one of the United Kingdom’s best and has the accolade of the Blue Flag award, which it has maintained for 35 years—more than any other beach in the country.”

It adds: “There are some world-class restaurant and pub-dining facilities in the vicinity.

“Highlights include Rick Stein with its spectacular array of delicious dishes, the Tandy, an all-day dining restaurant, and the FJB Hotel chain, offering three hotels in Sandbanks providing high-quality restaurants and luxurious accommodation if you wish to extend your stay in this beautiful part of the world.”

Sandbanks beach has nearly 2,000 reviews on TripAdvisor, and it is among the most popular things to do in the area.

One reviewer said: “Beautiful beach! Soft sand, clear waters and clean.

“Getting parked In peak season can be tricky but it’s do able! There’s cafes, shops and bars on the sea front as well so it’s great for all ages.”

And another one said: “This beach is one of the nicest in Dorset. Especially in the evening when it’s less busy.

“Well worth a visit. There isn’t loads to do here though and not much around so come prepared unless you want to spend a lot of money!”
