Game of ThronesPeter Dinklage voices lead character Winston Gooze/Toxie, while Baldur’s Gate III actor Luisa Guerreiro serves as suit actor.

Meanwhile, Luca‘s Jacob Tremblay, The Bondsman‘s Kevin Bacon, The Lord of the Rings‘ Elijah Wood and Nighty Night’s Julia Davis also star.

The film premiered at Fantastic Fest all the way back in September 2023, so there’s already a fair few reviews from critics out there.

And the good news is, they’re pretty positive. The new version of The Toxic Avenger currently stands at a very strong 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, from 25 critic reviews.

That’s higher than the 70% positive rating for the original film on the site, although only 20 critic reviews are considered and none of them are from the original time of release.

The official consensus for the remake states that: “Like the original, The Toxic Avenger isn’t for everyone – but viewers seeking an extremely gory, extremely silly good time won’t be disappointed.”

Discussing Film praised the film for not sanitising the original, while Spectrum Culture is glad that none of the big-name actors “behave that this material is beneath them”.

The Toxic Avenger remake is released on UK, Irish, and US cinemas on 29 August.
