A free family festival loved by families in Bearwood and beyond is returning to Lightwoods Park after six years.

Bearwood Shuffle will be held at Lightwoods Park, just off the Hagley Road, on Saturday, June 14.

The event is totally free to attend, run by volunteers, and will feature live music, food, play zones and a craft market.

Families are invited to take their picnic blankets to the park for the occasion from 12:30pm until 6:30pm.

Among the artists scheduled to play are Layla Tutt, El Sam, the Metz Jr Band, Sam Redmore and the Tropical Soundclash Allstars and the Ceilidh Band.

Between sets, Sharon Brown of SoFunk will be leading disco dance fitness sessions for extra dancing opportunities. The Birmingham Opera Company is also expected to attend.

Families can take picnics to the park, but food will be available, with Japanese-inspired hotdogs, kara-age fried chicken, artisan coffees, Caribbean street food, pizza, arancini, donuts and brownies on offer.

The Lightwoods House restaurant, 1000 Trades on the Park, will have an outside bar with extra beer pumps and drinks from Attic Brewery.

The kids craft zone will feature activities throughout the day, with arts, glitter tattoos, skipping ropes, Jenga, archery and garden games.

Local artist Tat Vision will be there to make his signature puppets and The Parakeet will craft with cardboard and natural materials.

Meanwhile, more than 30 local crafters and makers will sell from the Bearwood Shuffle Arts Market.

Bearwood Shuffle is a not-for-profit that began back in 2011, named after the iPod Shuffle and created to ‘make a difference’.

The grassroots, community-powered festival hopes to bring ‘live music, creativity and good vibes to the heart of Bearwood’.

Bearwood Shuffle takes place on Saturday, June 14 and no tickets are necessary. The not-for-profit team behind it has set up a fundraising page to help support the event.
