The 18th series of Britain’s Got Talent is set to come to an end this week with finalists including Olly Pearson, Jasmine Rice, Joseph Charm and Binita Chetry.

Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and guest judge KSI returned for the last live semi-final on Saturday, May 24, where KSI pressed the last Golden Buzzer to bring magician Harry Moulding to the final.

The final takes place on Saturday, May 31, where only one act can be crowned winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2025 – following in the footsteps of Sydnie Christmas who won in 2024, and dancer Viggo Venn who won the show in 2023. The winner will get to perform at the Royal Varieties Show, in front of members of the Royal Family.

For the first time in Britain’s Got Talent history, the semi-finals were spread out week-by-week rather than airing all the episodes nightly over a week – making it the longest lasting series of BGT ever.

Simon’s return to screens for this series of BGT got viewers talking as they’re distracted by his choice of eyewear as he is seen sporting a pair of red sunglasses. The star has previously opened up about the real reason behind his choice of eyewear – and it’s not just a fashion statement.

He addressed speculation around a ‘mystery illness’ that caused him to miss some filming as he said on Instagram: “I just found out, according to the internet, I have a ‘mystery illness’.

“For anyone concerned, I missed two auditions at the end of one day, two weeks ago, because I do get migraines after long days in the filming lights.” He then clarified: “PS. This is why I wear these glasses!”

Simon’s health has previously been in the headlines after he broke his back and underwent major surgery in 2020 after falling off his e-bike. The former X Factor judge was riding on the grounds of his home in Miami, Florida, in August 2020 when he fell and broke his back in a frightening accident.

At the time, his spokesperson said in a statement: “Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family. He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He’s doing fine, he’s under observation and is in the best possible hands. Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening.”

After undergoing surgery, Simon spent months recuperating. In 2021, he told Extra that although the injury was awful, he was grateful it wasn’t worse. “It could have been a lot worse. When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk,” he said.

“In one week, I broke my wrist, tooth fell out because I was eating peanut brittle, [and then] a day after that, I tested positive for Covid!” he added.
