Bayern Munich midfielder and 2020 UEFA Champions League winner Leon Goretzka lifted Thomas Müller and gleefully ran about as Bayern lifted the Meisterschale in their last home game of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The midfielder knows a thing or two about being underappreciated much like Müller; his former manager Julian Nagelsmann left him out of his squad for EURO 2024 and when his teammate Aleksandar Pavlović had to skip the Euros due to illness, the spot was offered to Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can.

Per @iMiaSanMia, Goretzka was asked about the Bayern Munich vice captain: “Thomas Müller has never been named Germany Footballer of the Year during his career. Would he deserve it at the end of his career here this year?”

Goretzka responded as follows: “He would deserve it. But it’s a bit of his story that he often didn’t get the recognition he deserved for his extraordinary achievements. He told me last time that in his entire time at FC Bayern, he was only twice in the ‘Kicker’ top XI. Everyone knows what’s the most important thing for him.”

Thomas Müller can point to his 34 trophies for proof.
