Breckenbrough showed plenty of ability when runner-up on debut at Newbury last month and she again shaped well when third in a valuable novice at Ascot that is often won by a useful prospect. Those pieces of form are the best on offer and as she was a bit keen over a mile at Ascot last time the drop back to seven furlongs could be in her favour.
Telemark had an up-and-down campaign last season but showed useful form when winning handicaps at Thirsk and Doncaster and he caught the eye when finishing in mid-division at Newcastle on his reappearance. He would have finished closer with better luck in running and the way he shaped there suggests he may have come back as an improved performer.
Come On Over cost 200,000 guineas and has plenty of speed in his pedigree as he’s by Kodiac out of No Lippy who won three of her first four starts as a juvenile during her only season of racing. No Lippy has already produced a smart sprinter in Walbank so Come On Over makes plenty of appeal on paper, while he starts out in a race his trainer Richard Fahey won last season.
Percy Shelley failed to beat a rival on his seasonal reappearance and first start for James Owen (previously with David O’Meara) at Ripon last month, but he stepped up on that effort when third at Goodwood a week later. He is still searching for a first win in Britain but he produced some creditable efforts in defeat for his former stable and has slipped to a decent mark. He looks likely to give a good account and gets the vote.
Charmaine has been progressing well on the all-weather and followed up a win at Southwell with another narrow success at Kempton. She was up nearly a furlong in trip at Kempton, tackling a mile and a half for the first time, but she saw the distance out thoroughly and edged ahead inside the final 100 yards to score by a neck. She remains unexposed around this trip and still fairly treated after going up only 3 lb in the weights, so she is taken to translate the improvement shown on the all-weather to turf.
Nazuki showed plenty to work with when runner-up in a six-furlong novice at Southwell in October and she confirmed that promise by winning her next two starts over the same course and distance. She’s bred to be useful as she’s out of a mare placed at listed level, and she remains with plenty of untapped potential as she heads into handicaps from a fair-looking opening mark. The continued good form of trainer Ollie Sangster is another factor in her favour.
Magellan Cloud was an encouraging third on his handicap debut at Musselburgh last month but ran to only a similar level when filling the same position at Haydock a few weeks ago. He shaped as if unsuited by the drop back to a mile at Haydock so should appreciate stepping up to an extended mile and a quarter here. He’s a well-made sort with few miles on the clock so is taken to raise his game tackling a more suitable trip.
Yellow Card did well to get off the mark at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start given he was short of room at a crucial stage, and he registered a much more emphatic victory at Salisbury last time when getting a clearer shot at things. He travelled well, made good headway two furlongs out and readily drew two and three-quarter lengths clear to highlight he’s a rapidly progressive sort. He can defy a 7 lb rise for his latest effort and complete the hat-trick.
