Was only lightly raced over here before switching to Dubai for the winter where he showed a decent chunk of improvement. NO RETREAT switches trainer again, to a team in decent order, and could be the class angle in this particular line-up against mostly exposed handicappers.
13:30 Goodwood – Cyclonite
Showed he can handle the turf with a decent performance at Chester staying on despite being posted a little wide. He has a slightly wider draw again, but with a bigger field, CYCLONITE should at least have a decent pace to run at and he has the excellent Ray Dawson down at close to his minimum weight to ride.
They decided to try TILTED KILT over further last time, but he now drops back to what could be his ideal distance of a mile. His run at Sandown has to be upgraded, as he was keen and posted wide, yet still finished off with a bit of petrol in the tank. He’s got a handy draw to get a nice box seat position in a race loaded with early pace.
SAUCY JANE did well to hold on for fourth at York after a slightly slow start and then racing a touch on the forehand into a pretty stiff breeze, she’s already proven at the venue and has arguably achieved a little bit more than the unbeaten Ali shuffle, she must’ve bounced out of that effort well as they back her up just eight days later.
RUNNING LION struggled going down into the dip at Newmarket, chopping and changing her stride pattern and looking decidedly uncomfortable. Back on a flat galloping surface she should be able to show her true potential and will have to underperform not to get the job done in this line-up.
14:45 Beverley – Raakeb
RAAKEB is being underestimated in the market despite being very green and babyish when getting the job done at Ripon 15 days ago. He flicked his ears going over the line suggesting there was plenty left in the locker and was just starting to get the message. He will be more streetwise this time and a jolt of improvement should be forthcoming.
SYMBOL OF HONOUR dropped back in distance and made no mistake at Newbury, travelling well just in behind the leaders, and not appearing to do a great deal once he hit the front. When his rider gave him a little reminder, he started to power away late on. That was a career best and there’s no reason to think he’s stopped climbing yet.
This doesn’t look particularly strong for listed level and most of these hopefully have not stopped improving just yet. PERFECT YOUR CRAFT has the biggest ticket to improve, having only been seen on one occasion, when getting the job done in gutsy fashion. The team appear to be hitting their stride and she can throw her hat into the ring for the Oaks.
TWILIGHT CALLS ran a bit better than his finishing position suggests at headquarters, as he was slowly away and nearly lost touch with the field, before being rushed up in the hottest part of the contest. He doesn’t win very often, but has more than enough ability to run and get a slice of the action at a huge each-way price, after finishing second in this contest a couple of seasons ago.
This venue is going to suit FIELD OF GOLD well given he sees out this distance very well. There’s no reason to think he’s still not improving, and he’s proven on all ground conditions, so the weather is not a problem. At the prices, one that sticks out is Rashabar, and I will have a small each-way interest in him too.
