Tech billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday shared a news report which pertains to Russia‘s alleged ‘state secret’—the drastic fall in its birth rate. The numbers have dropped since the 1700s, hitting a 200-year low, and according to the report, due to the sharp plummet in figures, Russia has officially stopped publishing monthly numbers.Taking to X, Musk reposted the report, saying, “Almost all countries are experiencing birth rate collapse.”
The report was originally shared by online influencer and founder of IBC Group Mario Nawfal who posted the excerpt from Newsweek that discussed how Russia’s birth rate just fell to a 200-year low. In his post, quoting Newsweek as source, Nawfal wrote, “RUSSIA’S BIRTH RATE JUST FELL TO A 200-YEAR LOW—AND NOW IT’S A STATE SECRET.”
“Russia is running out of people. Births dropped so sharply this year that officials stopped publishing monthly numbers. A top demographer says March 2025 may have had the fewest births since the 1700s. Population projections? Down from 146 million today to 132 million by 2045. Worst-case: just 83 million by 2100, he said.
Nawfal added, “The government’s response includes banning “childfree ideology,” tightening abortion access, offering cash to pregnant women, and even proposing to release prisoners so they can have children. Also: they might censor TV shows like Harry Potter and Sex and the City for promoting the wrong message.”
Elon Musk Calls Falling Birth Rates ‘The Great Dying’
Days ago, Musk had expressed his fears over civilisation coming to an end. “The great dying,” he said, as he shared images of the low fertility rates in Europe, some of which have fallen to dangerous levels, well below replacement.
When asked what keeps him up at night, Musk told Fox News in an interview recently, “There are a lot of things that I suppose I worry about. And some of these things will seem esoteric to people. One issue at the top of his list? The plummeting birth rates in the US and beyond. Unless that changes, civilisation will disappear.”
He cautioned, “Nothing seems to be turning that around. Humanity is dying.”
