Police search teams on scene in Redditch Road
Police have issued a statement to explain what happened after an emergency services alert in Redditch Road this weekend.
Specialist officers, firefighters and an ambulance were all seen lining part of the street in Kings Norton from Saturday morning into the afternoon, May 31.
999 was dialled amid concerns for a ‘man on a roof’, with the incident ending in an officer assaulted and an arrest made, police now confirmed.
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
He was taken to hospital for a medical assessment, but will be questioned “in due course”, police say.
A statement from the force, issued today, Sunday, June 1, read: “We were called to Redditch Road, Kings Norton yesterday morning (1 June) to concerns for the welfare of a man on a roof.
“A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
“He has been taken to hospital for medical assessment and will be questioned in due course.”
Firefighters were called to the incident, but said it was ‘police-led’
An ambulance had been seen leaving the area on blue lights after “a lot of movement” inside a house on Redditch Road.
Several officers from operational support units were pictured working on scene. One resident, named only as Andrew, told us: “There is now 3 OSU (operational support units) on site and 5-6 police cars.
“It’s hard to say what’s happened, but from what I can see, there is a white man in an upstairs room, and there is a lot of movement inside both houses on Redditch Road.
“Police and ambulance staff are inside one downstairs, the 3rd OSU just left on blues, but a fourth has pulled up now. No firearms police are on site as of yet.”
