After an embarrassing 52-0 defeat against Leinster in their Investec Champions Cup quarter-final at the Aviva Stadium, here’s how the Glasgow Warriors squad performed on Friday.

Backline fail to fire

15 Kyle Rowe: The Scotland flyer was solid under the high ball and went on some attacking runs but made little headway as he was kept in check by Leinster’s defence. 5

14 Jamie Dobie: Caught the eye with a fine tackle on Garry Ringrose early on in build-up to a Jordie Barrett try, which was subsequently disallowed as Ringrose knocked on after Dobie’s hit. He continued to take the fight to Leinster on defence and attack but made little impact. 5

13 Stafford McDowall: The 27-year-old was a willing ball carrier but most of his runs were down blind alleys. Was also kept busy on defence but missed some crucial tackles. 4

12 Tom Jordan: The Scotland rookie toiled manfully in midfield and tried to give his side momentum with his playmaking skills but could not break down a resilient Leinster defence. 5

11 Kyle Steyn (c): Like the rest of the backline, it was a frustrating evening for the Warriors captain as he had few attacking opportunities and was restricted mostly to defensive duties. 5

10 Adam Hastings: The Scotland playmaker was sent to the sin bin midway through the opening half for deliberately knocking on a Ronan Kelleher pass deep inside his 22. Glasgow were also punished with a penalty try for his actions and while he was off the field, they conceded two further tries. Tried to make up for that indiscretion when he returned to action by unlocking Leinster’s defence but failed to do so. 3

9 George Horne: The 29-year-old battled to get his backline firing as he received scraps of possession behind a retreating pack and was eventually replaced by Ben Afshar on the hour mark. 4

Forwards come off second best

8 Sione Vailanu: The Tonga international made some strong carries during his time on the field but was forced off shortly before half-time. 6

7 Rory Darge: The Scotland tearaway caught the eye with a high work-rate on defence but battled to make an impact with ball in hand. 5

6 Matt Fagerson: Not an encounter he will remember fondly as he too limped off the field with what looked like a serious leg injury late in the second half. Prior to that he was a willing ball carrier and put his body on the line on defence. 6

5 Alex Samuel: Not much to report here as he had little influence on this encounter. He won some lineout balls and was a willing defender but it was all in vain. 4

4 Gregor Brown: Like his second-row partner, he was prominent at lineout time and was solid on defence. Moved to the back-row when Vailanu left the field with JP du Preez coming in to take his place at lock. 5

3 Sam Talakai: The Australia international had big boots to fill with Zander Fagerson ruled out due to concussion. Talakai stood up well in the scrums and took the fight to his opponents as a ball carrier but did not gain much momentum. 5

2 Johnny Matthews: The experienced hooker was solid in the execution of his core duties but it had little effect on the grander scheme of things and like the rest of the starting front-row, he was replaced in the 49th minute. 5

1 Nathan McBeth: The 26-year-old came off second best in his direct duel with Tadhg Furlong in the scrums and was quiet in other areas. 4

Replacements: Not much to report here as the players who entered the fray off the Glasgow Warriors bench made no real impact on attack and spent most of the match on the back foot with defensive duties their main priority. 4
