Nationwide making major change to opening hours with customers warnedNationwide could bring its bonus payment scheme back this summer.

Nationwide customers whose accounts are open and active today (Monday, March 31) could be in line for £100 bonus payments this summer.

The building society has paid out the cash to millions of customers in each of the last two years as part of its Fairer Share scheme and may do the same again this summer.

Experts have been advising customers on things they can do to increase their chances of bagging the cash.

This includes ensuring there is at least £100 in savings accounts and making payments from their current account up to March 31.

These were previously among conditions for the Fairer Share bonus.

It means Nationwide customers may need to have been using their account during March, making payments with a debit card in shops and having direct debits go out.

Last year, they needed to have a mortgage or savings account with Nationwide, and have at least £100 in savings, or owe at least £100 on a mortgage with them.

Britain’s biggest building society looks set to announce whether the bonus scheme will return for 2025 on May 29.

If it does, payments could then follow in June.

Signs have been pointing to Fairer Share coming back this year, following a positive few months for Nationwide.

Senior figures have outlined their “intention” for it to continue, while the financial strength of the building society following the takeover of Virgin Money has bosses content enough to hand out separate £50 bonus payments to over 12 million customers in April.

Earlier in March, Nationwide said it intends to make the payment annually “providing it would not be detrimental to the society’s financial strength and subject to board approval, and hopes as many members as possible are eligible for the reward in the future”.

Towards the end of last year, the mutual’s chief executive Debbie Crosbie said they were “well positioned” to repeat a Fairer Share payment to qualifying customers.
