Celtic and Rangers matches have always brought out high drama, entertainment value, and characters like never before.

One of them who stood above many was Celtic’s legendary captain, Scott Brown, and his ability to wind up everyone at any given moment.

On top of Brown winning trophy after trophy in Glasgow, guiding the club to Trebles, and becoming one of the best midfielders Scotland has ever produced, he did it by making sure steam was coming out of the opponents’ ears.

Nobody fell for it more than former Rangers player, El Hadji Diouf, including his famous moment in the Glasgow derby when coming against Brown.

That iconic ‘Broony’ moment occurred in 2011, and the man himself spoke about it.

Fans today might see Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham pull his arms out wide and above his head, but Brown did it way before the England midfielder even became a professional.

Diouf was an outspoken player, and after Celtic faced Rangers in the Scottish Cup fifth round replay at Parkhead, Brown scored and proceeded to do that celebration.

Brown explained how he got ‘booked’ for that moment, but that’s the one booking, in his whole career, that he just ‘didn’t deserve’, as he told the Let Me Be Frank Podcast.

“I got booked for that,” said Brown. “Honestly. That’s probably the only booking I didn’t deserve.”

Frank McAvennie then stated: “I remember, you were having a just before it, and when you scored, that’s what you done (the celebration).”

Brown then added: “We were having a go all season, to be fair. It was every game, then, was he still there that season afterwards? I can’t remember how long he was there.

“But it was actually quite good banter. I liked somebody who gave me something back.”

How many times did Brown get booked and sent off in his career?

Brown represented three clubs during his career, starting at Hibernian in 2002, before sealing a move to Celtic in 2007.

That led to Brown having a trophy-laden career in Paradise before he left in 2021 and spent a small period of time at Aberdeen, including scoring at Ibrox.

But how many times was the all-action midfielder booked or sent off in his career?
