Joseph O’Brien believes Betfred Oaks entry Wemightakedlongway is “definitely a legitimate contender” if taking her chance in the Classic on Friday.

The decorated trainer is also excited by the prospect of having a runner in the Derby the following day for just the third time since he began training in 2016.

Wemightakedlongway is a 16-1 chance in the Oaks with the sponsors and 20-1 with other firms, having won the Group 3 Salsabil Stakes at Navan on her most recent run. And on her reappearance she ran better than the result suggests when clashing against the opposite sex and finishing five-and-a-quarter lengths behind Derby favourite Delacroix.
