There’s a reason Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson looks familiar: He may not be actual royalty, but his role in the royal household serving as a senior equerry to King Charles and Queen Camilla has placed him front and center at many major royal events. (Ahem, like the Coronation in May 2023.) It also led him to become somewhat of a social media legend with nicknames including “hot equerry” and “major eye candy” running rampant and fast eclipsing his royal duties—so much so that he requested a less public-facing role at the palace last year.

Well, this past weekend Thompson—who continues to be Charles’s right-hand man, just a bit more privately—tied the knot with PR executive, Olivia Lewis. The royally-adjacent wedding of the season? We think so.
According to The Mail on Sunday, Thompson and his bride wed at St. Mary’s Church in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire over the weekend. Following the ceremony, they hosted a lunch and reception at the home of Lewis’s parents.
The pair announced their engagement last fall via an announcement in the UK Times that read: “The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Johnny Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”

As for Thompson’s role at the palace, he first made headlines while working as one of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s most senior bodyguards. Upon her passing, he was pictured quite a bit alongside the king and garnered thousands of comments (and compliments) for his “dashing” looks, per The Times. As for how Thompson met Lewis, she also had a position working for the king and queen. (Her dad also previously held the role as first communications secretary to Queen Elizabeth.)
Still, as we mentioned, Thompson is said to have been less than thrilled with being a viral sensation, so much so that he was moved to a “less public-facing role” in February of last year. (He still very much works with the king and queen and was pictured alongside the royal family as recently as Christmas.)
No, news of his marriage isn’t as big as a senior royal getting hitched, but we’ll take it—and are thrilled for the happy couple nonetheless.
