Nestle pays its retired staff their pension on a Thursday but now payments won’t be made until today (Tuesday June 3) due to an error made by a bank.

Retired Nestle employee Brian Smith says ‘thousands’ will have not received their pension last Thursday and neither did the confectionary giant tell any of them about the mistake.

Brian told the Press: “I tried four times and only got an automated response on the phone!

“Having chased them up numerous times via email (five altogether from myself) an automated reply came back then more than two hours later another email to say they are sorry but they are looking into it!

“I have to add that at no time did they send anyone an email directly to each individual to explain why payments hadn’t gone out!”

Brian continued: “I’m sure that there would be an awful lot of older people who haven’t got a clue about computers or realised that their payments did not go into their account until it was too late!

“As of late on Saturday night a message was posted on the Nestle Pension website stating that the payments would not be paid until the 3rd June because of a fault with HSBC UK.”

“And they still haven’t contacted anyone by email to let them know this, so I think they are hoping, ignorance is bliss and most people won’t be aware of this problem!

Brian added: “I personally have managed to move some money around to prevent any bank charges but I’m sure an awful lot of people won’t notice until their next bank statement lands on their doormat?!

“I just find it laughable that such an organisation like Nestle can’t or won’t contact the individual or just send out a statement fully explaining what has happened so that at least we all know and can be prepared (as the old Boy Scouts used to say) to deal with the situation as it comes through.

It might not be newsworthy now but who’s to say we won’t get paid tomorrow or it won’t happen again or has the system been hacked like M&S!?”

A Nestle spokesperson told the Press: “This was a third-party issue outside of our control and we have worked quickly to make sure that payments are made early this week.

“We apologise to those affected by the delay and will conduct a full review to make sure it does not happen again.”
