A man has captured some amazing GoPro footage of dolphins swimming off the coast of Tynemouth.
Stu Armstrong, from North Shields, says he “never could have expected” what he saw when taking his boat out at around 10am on Saturday.
Instead of turning right to South Shields like he usually does, Stu went left which turned out to be a fruitful decision when he was met with an incredible sight.
He said: “I couldn’t see anything coming as the dolphins are a similar colour to the water, and it just jumped out. For a second, I got the fright of my life, as I had no idea what it was until I came to my senses.
“There were two of them, and they followed the boat all the way past past Longsands and King Edward’s Bay. They kept jumping out of the water and playing around, it’s like they were putting on a show.

“I love dolphins, and I have previously gone swimming with them, but I didn’t expect to see one in the wild. It was just absolutely brilliant.”
What’s even better is that, without even realising at the time, Stu was able to get some footage of the dolphins on the GoPro that he has on his boat. It shows the dolphins jumping out of the water, with one just metres away from his boat.
Stu added: “I only sometimes bring the GoPro onto the boat, and I’m so glad that I did on Saturday, as I could never have expected what happened. Dolphins have always fascinated me, and getting to see them really made for a brilliant day.
“My friends and family have been shocked to see the footage when I showed them it, and they know how special it must have been to see. Loads of people were on the beach on Saturday morning as well, and seeing the dolphins seemed to put a smile on everyone’s face.”
