Pop icon Will Young has spoken of his hopes for family life and the joy of a loving relationship.

At 46, the original Pop Idol winner has candidly discussed his “wonderful partner” and their shared vision for a future together.

Young’s openness about his dreams for starting a family and fostering children was brought to light in an intimate conversation with The i following disclosures he made last year.

Devon Live reports that Will attributed his newfound emotional availability to facing the obstacles fame imposed on his private life, particularly the once pervasive press attention he endured.

He revealed, “I’m in a lovely relationship. I’m having a wonderful time with a wonderful partner. I had a closed heart, but it’s opened up now. Why has my heart opened up?”, reports the Mirror.

In a reflective tone, he continued: “Meeting the right person. And making the choice to be open to someone. If you’re waiting for that Hollywood moment, you might be waiting for the rest of your life, so you’ve got to make a choice that you want to be in a relationship. I was restricted by the mainstream music industry.”

Dismissing his previous paparazzi run-ins as non-current issues, Will noted these experiences once posed stress for him and possibly affected past partners differently, yet they did not hinder his dating life significantly.

Charting back to his interview with Attitude magazine last year, Will expressed his aspiration to have a family after his album “Light It Up” debuted.

Will Young has expressed his interest in fostering, stating to a publication, “I’m quite interested in fostering… I think I’d be very good at being emotionally available and emotionally validating.”

He also delved into the realms of modern romance, admitting to using dating apps and finding both his last boyfriend and current interest through them: “It’s a bit of a lottery. My last boyfriend was off an app. And the person I’m dating at the moment’s off an app.”

The pop idol has been candid about his mental health struggles, specifically his battle with PTSD, and attributes gardening as a key element in his recovery. In a heartfelt revelation to the Telegraph, he disclosed, “When I first went into treatment for PTSD, I had just begun work on one of my gardens. I think because I totally focused on that, it really helped me get better.”

Will expounded on the therapeutic benefits of horticulture: “I’ve found that the simple act of putting my hands in the soil helps because it’s grounding… it literally grounds me, it grounds my whole body…. I find one little job to focus on, it calms me down. It is meditative.”

Not content with just his musical achievements, Will is branching out to television as he joins the lineage investigation show Who Do You Think You Are?

. Fans can watch his discoveries unfold in the 22nd series, which airs tonight (Tuesday, June 3) at 9pm on BBC One.
